My partner and I had an unprotected sex last night and I'm afraid I would get pregnant. What should I do?
For unprotected sex cases (which means you were not able to use any contraceptive method prior to the sexual activity) get an Emergency Contraception right away. I mean, RIGHT AWAY.
In my case, I took the Emergency Contraception 24 hrs after an unprotected sex. I never intended to take an Emergency Contraception since I knew I will not get pregnant. But realizing that (1) My partner and I just used the withdrawal method and (2) I knew I am not safe for unprotected sex that night so just to make sure I will not get pregnant, I took an Emergency Contraception. Lucky it is still not over 120 hrs before I decided to make a move.

What is an Emergency Contraception?
It is a contraception method where contraception is not done before the sexual activity but rather after the sexual activity. The most common Emergency Contraception is the use of "The Morning-After Pill".

What is "The Morning-After Pill"
In U.S there are several brands available as the Morning-After Pill. The most popular is the Plan B Pill. Here in the Philippines, you can use Nordette as a Morning-After Pill.

What is Nordette?
Nordette is an oral contraceptive pill indicated for fertility control in women. It is composed of 150mcg Levonorgestrel and 30mcg Ethinyloestradiol. 

How much is Nordette and it is available?
Nordette cause 180 pesos in mercury drugstore. 

How do I use Nordette as an Emergency Contraception?
Here's how Nordette looks like: 

It is composed of 21 white pills. 
1st dose- 4 tablets (120 hours after unprotected sex)-sabay sabay
2nd dose -4 tablets 12 hours after the first dose -sabay sabay
 Note: Disregard the arrows and the days indicated on the blister. It really doesn't matter as long as you take 4 pills all at the same time and the other 4 pills 12 hours after the 1st dose.
NOTE: Take the pills 150 hours(5 days) after the unprotected sex. The longer you take it the lower the chance the effectiveness. So it is necessarily, take the pill as soon as possible.


How is it effective?

Nordette is very much effective as long as you take it the morning after you had an unprotected sex. However you can still take Nordette within 120 hours (5 days) of unprotected sex but the effectivity will not be that satisfactory compared to that taken right away.

What do I have to expect after taking Nordette?

You may experience nausea and for rare cases, vomiting. Bear in mind that you vomited because it is one of the side effect of the pill and not because you are already pregnant. You will also have your menstruation earlier than you expected.
I took nordette august 16, 2013 at 4pm the first 4 pills. and then followed by the 4 pills after 12hours at 4 am. After taking the 2nd dose i feel extreme vomit, and afterward i dont feel anything.

It takes 15 days when i felt the withdrwal bleeding, luckily i have it and it is the happiest day ever :)

-i read from other blog that the withdrawal bleeding will be experience after 5 days, actually it depends on the cycle of the body. If you really take the first dose as soon as possible you dont have nothing to worry. 

 

Remember that you are taking the Morning-After Pill because you had an unprotected sex. Never make it a habit to just rely on the pill and keep having an unprotected sex everyday of your life. Your body will be confused on the sudden changes that you are doing. You might as well start an oral contraceptive so you may have a better peace of mind of doing repeated sex with your partner without worrying of being pregnant.
